The Early, Elementary, and Reading Education Department within the College of Education at James Madison University invites applications for two tenure-track positions in Reading Education beginning August 2019.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Reading faculty at JMU fulfill needs in the following areas: teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in reading/literacy; engaging in professional research; advising students and supervising field experiences; and working collaboratively in and outside the university. Faculty members in the JMU Reading Program teach courses in areas that include but are not limited to Inclusive Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Middle Education, and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. In addition, faculty members have responsibilities connected with a Master’s of Education in Reading. Courses include topics such as foundations of literacy, reading assessment and instruction, literacy development for English language learners, and reading and writing across the curriculum. We are looking for literacy faculty candidates who represent and support diverse perspectives and who can contribute to a department committed to social justice through work that is transformational, inclusive, sustainable, and equitable.
Candidates should have an earned doctorate in Reading or Literacy Education or related field conferred before August 2019. Candidates should have teaching experience in programs that serve literacy learners from preK-12th grade and a record of scholarly activity. Experience working with diverse populations, speakers of other languages, and experience teaching in higher education are desired.
Pay Rate: Commensurate with Experience
