The Department of Education at West Texas A&M University invites applications for a tenure-track teaching position as Assistant/Associate Professor of Educational Leadership. The Department of Education is committed to the proposed doctoral program in Educational Leadership beginning May 2018. The proposed doctoral program is designed with a PK-12 Educational Leadership emphasis and will provide terminal degree opportunities for master’s degree holder in education and other related fields and will prepare career professionals for executive leadership positions that will meet various needs of rural independent school districts and other related entities.

Position responsibilities include teaching doctoral and graduate courses in educational leadership with an additional emphasis on state licensure as a principal or superintendent. The graduate educational leadership programs are fully online therefore successful teaching in the online environment is required. Additional responsibilities include advising students, conducting scholarly research, active participation in professional organizations, and university service. The Department of Education is interested in developing innovative teaching strategies utilizing partnerships with regional principals and superintendents to enrich the graduate education experience.

The candidate will be expected to develop and/or continue an ongoing research agenda in their area of specialization, including regular publication in quality outlets, professional presentations, and submission of external grant proposals. Service on doctoral committees and comprehensive examination or thesis committees is required as well as service to the department, college, and community through partnerships with surrounding and Texas school districts.

Necessary Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in educational leadership or related field with an educational leadership emphasis. ABD considered with stipulations.
  • State licensure/certification in teaching and a minimum of two years teaching experience in PK-12.
  • State licensure/certification and three years of experience as a PK-12 principal.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience serving on Doctoral Committees in Educational Leadership.
  • Certification or eligibility for licensure/certification as a Texas superintendent.
  • Leadership experience in a rural school district.
