Overview

The Department of Counseling, Health, and Kinesiology seeks applicants for a full-time, non-tenure track appointment for an Assistant Professional Track Faculty of Counseling. Currently, Texas A&M University-San Antonio is experiencing enormous growth and is in the process of developing a new 700 acre campus located on the Southside of San Antonio. The Counseling program is a robust program with an active faculty devoted to teaching, service, scholarship, and professional development. The successful candidate will teach graduate classes in the Counseling Program (i.e., Clinical Mental Health, School, and Marriage Couple and Family Counseling); fulfill service responsibilities to the Department of Counseling, Health, and Kinesiology and the University; and maintain professional development through engagement, interaction, and relevant activities. Candidates will be expected to work in collaboration with other colleagues in the Department of Counseling, Health, and Kinesiology and community partners. Professional Track Faculty members will be expected to supervise practicum and internship students.

Work hours vary with schedule.

Job Description

The successful candidate will:

  • Teach graduate classes in the Counseling Program (i.e., Clinical Mental Health, School, and Marriage Couple and Family Counseling);
  • Fulfill service responsibilities to the Department of Counseling, Health, and Kinesiology and the University;
  • Maintain professional development through engagement, interaction, and relevant activities;
  • Work in collaboration with other colleagues in the Department of Counseling, Health, and Kinesiology and community partners, and
  • Professional Track Faculty members will be expected to supervise practicum and internship students.
  • Applicants must have a professional identity and work experience grounded in counseling or related educational field.

Prior to issuing a letter of appointment, three original letters of recommendation less than one-year-old and bearing the writer’s actual signature, as well as official transcripts sent directly from each degree-granting institution to the Department of Counseling, Health, and Kinesiology. If transcripts are from an international institution, it is the responsibility of the prospective faculty member to have the transcripts

translated and evaluated by an approved credential evaluator.

Necessary Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Counseling, Counselor Education and Supervision, or a related educational field.
  • 18 graduate hours in each field in which candidate will teach.
  • Experience working with culturally diverse populations.
  • Evidence of teaching, service, and professional development potential/productivity.
  • Applicants must have a professional identity and work experience grounded in counseling or related educational field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate of a CACREP accredited program.
  • Teaching experience in higher education including advising and supervising graduate students.
  • Membership and active participation in professional counseling organizations. Will also have a strong professional identity grounded in counseling or related educational field.
  • Three years of work experience in an area commensurate with the academic specialty.
  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and/or Professional School Counselor (PSC) and/or related licensure/certification.
