Position Overview
The Department of Curriculum & Teaching in the School of Education at The University of Kansas (KU) is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Curriculum Studies. This 9-month, tenure-track position will begin in August 18, 2018. The Department of Curriculum and Teaching is committed to support a culture of inclusion for all students. Job Description

  • The successful applicant will teach courses related to curriculum studies, including a course that covers foundations and theory, culturally relevant and/or social justice-oriented course, and curriculum development methodology. A teaching load of two courses per semester is normally expected. The applicant will also advise, mentor, and supervise undergraduate, master’s and doctoral level students (.40 FTE)
  • Teach undergraduate, master’s and doctoral-level courses and support program development.
  • Advise undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students.
  • Direct Ed.D. and Ph.D. research projects.
  • Serve on doctoral comprehensive examination committees for doctoral candidates.
  • Serve on doctoral dissertation committees for doctoral candidates.
  • Direct an ongoing program of research that integrates diversity around educational issues. (.40 FTE).
  • Produce research suitable for publication in refereed journals and other scholarly outlets in the field of education.
  • Produce research suitable for presentation as scholarly conferences (e.g., AERA, NCSS, NCTM, NCTE, NSTA).
  • Serve as a mentor to students in the development of research skills and the production of scholarly products.
  • Seek external funding for research and development projects.
  • Provide service to the Department of Curriculum & Teaching, School of Education, The University of Kansas community, and the field of professional education. (.20 FTE)
  • Serve on the undergraduate teacher education program committee and/or other departmental and School committees.
  • Attend Department of Curriculum & Teaching meetings and School Assembly meetings.
  • Collaborate with PK-12 schools that partner with the Department of Curriculum & Teaching.
  • Engage with professional organizations to promote education to the community.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction or closely related area with a focus on one or more of the following (a) critical pedagogies, (b)culturally relevant and/or social justice-oriented curriculum, (c) curriculum theory, (d) curriculum development, (e) teacher education(earned by August 15, 2018).
  • Evidence of successful PK – 12 teaching experience including a minimum of three years of experience teaching.
  • Experience working with diverse populations in schools as evidenced in application materials and interview.
  • Evidence of effective university teaching experience (face-to-face, online) as evidenced in application materials.
  • Evidence of strong potential of producing an active program of research in the field as evidenced in application materials.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate with university and PK-12 school faculty and staff as evidenced in application materials and interview.
