Overview

The Intellectual Disability/Autism (ID/Autism) Programs at Teachers College, Columbia University seek a tenure-track Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will have a doctorate in Special Education, Psychology, Human Development or related field, a strong record of scholarship in a clear line of research focused on individuals with developmental disabilities, and strong evidence of potential for external funding. The ideal candidate will have research expertise focused on individuals with ID/Autism during the adolescence and post-secondary transition developmental periods in addition to strong quantitative group-level methodological skills (e.g., expertise in the design and conduct of randomized controlled intervention trials and/or expertise in longitudinal research methodology). Candidates should have an explicit commitment to diversity and to advancing understanding and outcomes for underrepresented groups. Research and/or professional experience in PK-12 schools is strongly preferred.

The candidate will be expected to teach MA and PhD level courses (2 courses per semester), advise doctoral and master’s students, provide dissertation research sponsorship for doctoral students, and participate in service at the Department and College level.

Our MA and EdM programs prepare students for special education certification as teachers of students with and without disabilities and our research-intensive doctoral programs utilized a research-apprenticeship model of training.
