The Center for Teacher Education at Newberry College seeks to fill the position of Assistant Professor in Social Studies: Middle-High School, beginning August 2018. The successful candidate will be a creative, innovative, and energetic faculty member for our Middle Level-Secondary Education programs, specializing in Social Studies. Terminal degree in education with emphasis in social studies, history, or closely related field preferred, with 6-12 grade teaching experience required. Demonstrated effective teaching with diverse populations, demonstrated supervision and mentoring of teacher candidates, collaboration with public school partners, and excellent communication skills are required. Experience or an emerging understanding of CAEP and SPA accreditation requirements is desirable. Responsibilities include teaching social studies methods and foundations courses; supervision of teacher candidates; academic advisement; college and community service; accreditation responsibilities; and recruitment. Experience working on a collaborative team is valued. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
