The Department of Education in the School of Education & Health Sciences at North Central College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Education to begin September 2018. The successful candidate will teach a range of undergraduate and graduate courses focusing on teaching, curriculum, and instruction in the K-12 classroom including potentially elementary literacy and language. Other responsibilities include establishing a program of focused research and school, campus, and college committee work. The college encourages applications from candidates whose scholarship examines issues such as equity and access, underserved and vulnerable K-12 student populations, perspectives on capacity-based approaches to classroom instruction involving children who experience bias, and/or the preparation of teachers who are strong advocates for social justice. Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching excellence, mentoring of students, and ongoing scholarship/creative work.

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate in Education or Curriculum and Instruction at the time of appointment. Closely related academic areas will also be considered.
  • Demonstrated excellent teaching skills
  • Ability to design and implement engaging and effective instruction
  • Expertise in using a variety of technologies for teaching and learning
  • Willingness and ability to teach both online, hybrid, and face-to-face courses
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills
  • Evidence of three to five years of licensed, successful K-12 teaching experience, ideally teaching in a licensure field offered by the department.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching in post-secondary education
  • Experience with teacher education accreditation, especially CAEP accreditation
  • Experience teaching online and/or hybrid courses
  • Knowledge of national standards relative to teaching K-12 students (Common Core, Next Generation Science, etc.), teacher preparation programs, and teaching and learning with technology
