The College of Arts, Letters, and Education, at Eastern Washington University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position, Assistant Professor of Instruction and Assessment, in the Department of Education to begin mid-September 2018.
The preparation of teachers is central to the mission of the Education Department and the selected individual will work closely with colleagues in all areas of the department. Our undergraduate teacher education program offers a number of education majors resulting in specific Washington State Endorsements for successful teacher candidates. Several foundations courses are required for all elementary and secondary teacher candidates. Foundations core courses are introduction to education, foundations of assessment and elementary and secondary classroom management. Our Master of Education program has options for certified teachers in educational foundations and curriculum and instruction, among others.
We seek an outstanding teacher with successful experience teaching P-12 and foundations courses at the undergraduate and graduate level. Responsibilities will include teaching courses in the areas of curriculum development, assessment, and other foundations courses.
Faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning.
The candidate selected for this position may be expected to teach face-to-face classes, hybrid or blended classes and/or online classes according to the needs of the department.
Additionally, the candidate selected for this position will be expected to offer interest and/or experience in online learning and pursuit of grants, to expand the university’s endeavors in those areas.

Conditions of EmploymentThe required start date for this position is 09/14/2018. To be considered eligible for appointment into the position, applicants must be available and able to start in the position no later than 09/14/2018.
- Doctorate degree in Education or closely related discipline (or ABD, with doctorate conferred by 9/14/18).
- At least two years of full-time contracted teaching experience in a PK-12 setting or equivalent.
- Demonstrated expertise in the area of curriculum and instruction; expertise may be assessed based on coursework, teaching experience, research, and/or P-12 experience.
- Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal accessibility, of our students, faculty, staff and the public.
Preferred Qualifications:Preference may be given to candidates who offer one or more of the following preferred qualifications:
- Record of ability to foster community relationships and engage in learning collaboratively with students, community partners, staff, and colleagues.
- Experience with curriculum development and assessments aligned with Common Core State Standards and Smarter Balanced testing.
- Evidence of scholarly publication.
- Interest and/or experience in pursuit of grants.
- Three or more years of full-time, paid experience in teaching at the PK-12 levels in public or private schools.
- Expertise in instructional media/technology integration; expertise may be assessed based on coursework, teaching experience, research, and/or P-12 experience.
