Overview

Springfield College is currently accepting applications for a tenure track, nine month faculty appointment in the Education Department with a Literacy specialty area. Position responsibilities include teaching 4 courses per semester that may be at both undergraduate and/or graduate levels, supervision of field-based experiences, collaborate with public school teachers and administrators, academic advising, and service contributions to the Department and College.

Requirements:

Required qualifications include a Ph.D. or Doctorate in Education (or related discipline) from a regionally accredited institution in Reading/Literacy, Curriculum & Instruction with an emphasis in Reading/Literacy or other education-related fields with 18 graduate hours in Reading/Literacy, evidence of strong teaching skills, PreK-12 school teaching experience, and college/university teaching experience. Expertise in the following topics preferred: foundations of teaching reading, teaching students with reading difficulties, assessment and evaluation of reading and language development, pedagogical strategies for teaching young children through adolescents from diverse linguistic and developmental backgrounds (i.e. English Language Learners and Special Education), multicultural children’s and young adult literature, and literacy across content areas. Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver hybrid or online courses a plus. The successful candidate will also have an active research program or strong evidence of research potential. ABD’s with a completion date prior to the start date will be considered.

Preferred qualifications: 3-5 years of elementary teaching experience, teacher licensure/certification as a reading specialist.
