The Department of Curriculum and Instruction, in the Clemmer College of Education at East Tennessee State University, seeks one full-time tenure-track faculty member for undergraduate and graduate teacher education programs beginning fall 2018. Responsibilities: teaching on-site and on-line courses in K-12 reading education and ESL add-on endorsement including such courses as literacy instruction in diverse classrooms; ESLliteracy methods; ESL history, practices, and assessment; reading in the middle and secondary grades; psychology of reading; and diagnosis and remediation in reading. Responsibilities also include advising undergraduate and graduate students; conducting research; and participating in departmental, college, and university service. Some travel to off-campus sites may be required. Appointment will also require program development and coordination, advising, and cohort development.
Required QualificationsDoctorate in Reading/Literacy Education or a related field with 18 credit hours of ESL graduate coursework (or closely related area). ABD will be considered with assurances that the degree will be awarded by August 2018.
Preferred QualificationsPreference will be given to those applicants with 4 years teaching experience at the K-12 level, a demonstrated ability to teach appropriate university-level courses, and potential to be successful in research. Preference will also be given to candidates from under represented populations, those who demonstrate knowledge of diversity, skills in addressing needs of diverse groups, and an appreciation for multiculturalism and multilingualism. Demonstrated proficiency in teaching appropriate university courses, and online teaching; demonstrated potential for success in research and grant work; knowledge of diversity, skills in addressing needs of diverse groups, and appreciation for multiculturalism & multilingualism.
