The Department of Education at Salisbury University is accepting applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor in the Department of Education Leadership and Graduate Studies. This is a full-time tenure-track position.

Area of Specialization: Reading Instruction, Assessment, and Intervention

Primary Job Duties: Teach graduate courses in the M. Ed. Reading Specialist Program to include courses in reading assessment and intervention, instruction, and reading development. Teach reading development and instruction methods courses in the undergraduate teach education program. Advise students, engage in scholarly work, provide service to the department and university, and utilize effective teaching and classroom management strategies which enhance the success of diverse learners. Especially important is the capacity to prepare teacher candidates to successfully educate diverse learners in public schools. The normal teaching load is 3 courses per semester.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctoral Degree or ABD in Reading, Literacy, or Curriculum and Instruction with Reading or Literacy specialization. If ABD, doctoral degree must be completed before the date of hire
  • Designing, delivering, and evaluating reading/literacy programs and supporting teacher development
  • Master’s Degree in Reading, Literacy, or Reading Specialist Certification (K-12)
  • Three years of teaching experience in grades K-6 in U.S. public schools
  • Knowledge of current issues in reading development, instruction, and intervention
  • Evidence of potential for scholarly contributions to the field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching struggling readers and writers in public schools
  • Employment as a literacy coach or reading specialist with experience in assessing and correcting reading difficulties
  • Writing grants
  • Teaching at the undergraduate or masters level
  • Mentoring and supporting teacher development
  • Presenting at professional conferences
  • Publishing scholarly work
  • Potential for future program leadership
