Assistant Rank:

1. Earned doctorate with emphasis in Literacy or a related field by August 12, 2019.

2. Minimum of three years of full-time teaching (with teacher certification) in reading/language arts in elementary, middle school, or secondary school settings.

3. Experience with culturally and/or linguistically diverse populations.

4. Minimum of 18 graduate hours in literacy (Masters and/or Doctoral level.

5. Evidence of a research agenda.

6. Evidence of research dissemination.

Associate Rank:

1. Earned doctorate with emphasis in Literacy or field related to literacy.

2. Evidence of a cohesive research agenda and publication record commensurate with rank.

3. Experience with culturally and/or linguistically diverse populations.

4. Minimum of three years of full-time teaching (with teacher certification) in reading/language arts in elementary, middle school, or secondary school settings.

5. Minimum of 18 graduate hours in literacy (Masters and/or Doctoral level.

6. Excellence in university teaching experience.

7. Collaboration with schools.

8. Evidence of successful experience in leadership positions at department, college, university, and professional organization levels. Applicants for associate professor must meet University’s criteria for promotion and tenure at the associate level.

Full Professor Rank:

1. Earned doctorate with emphasis in Literacy or field related to literacy.

2. Evidence of a nationally recognized research agenda and publication record commensurate with rank.

3. Experience with culturally and/or linguistically diverse populations.

4. Minimum of three years of full-time teaching (with teacher certification) in reading/language arts in elementary, middle school, or secondary school settings.

5. Minimum of 18 graduate hours in literacy (Masters and/or Doctoral level).

6. Excellence in university teaching experience.

7. Collaboration with schools.

8. Evidence of successful experience in leadership positions at department, college, university, and professional organization levels.

9. Procurement of externally funded grants. Applicants for professor must meet University’s criteria for promotion and tenure at the full professor level.

Description of Job Duties

Responsibilities include:

1. Teaching doctoral, masters, and undergraduate courses related to the area of expertise, offered at either the UTSA Downtown Campus, the Main Campus, on public school campuses, and online.

2. Advising graduate students and supervising students in field placements/internships as needed.

3. Serving on masters and doctoral committees.

4. Conducting an active program of research.

5. Seeking grant funding.

6. Providing service to the department, college, university, community constituencies, and professional organizations.
