Samford University’s Orlean Beeson School of Education invites individuals interested in serving in a Christian university environment to submit applications for the full-time, tenure-track faculty position of chair of the Department of Educational Leadership at the assistant, associate or professor level. The chair is a 12-month tenure-track position. The department chair is responsible for teaching courses each academic semester and for the operations of the educational leadership graduate department. The chair is expected to work as a colleague with departmental faculty in program development and curriculum changes, provide departmental reports as needed, develop recommended schedules and faculty loads for the department, recruit and recommend admission for prospective graduate students, represent the educational leadership faculty to the administration, and work with faculty as related to personnel matters. The chair teaches a reduced faculty load that may include evening or weekend courses delivered on campus, out of town and online. The chair is expected to be involved with doctoral students, including service in dissertation research. The combination of administrative work, teaching and recruitment requires a flexible schedule. The individual is expected to participate fully in scholarship and service to the profession, school, university and community. Collaboration with K-12 schools and the state department of education is expected.
Qualified candidates will be graduates of an accredited school with an earned doctoral degree in educational leadership or a related field. Candidates should have K-12 administrative experience. Candidates must possess excellent interpersonal relationship skills, organizational skills and the ability to provide educational leadership. Prior teaching experience and successful performance in the faculty role is preferred, including teaching graduate students and teaching in an online format. A commitment to academic excellence and the ability to work effectively with faculty, students and colleagues is expected. Candidates must be willing to support the Christian mission of Samford University and Orlean Beeson School of Education.
Academic rank and salary are dependent upon qualifications, experience, previous academic teaching experience, and scholarship accomplishments.
