Stephens College, located in Columbia, Missouri, a vibrant college town approximately 120 miles from both Kansas City and St. Louis, is seeking a Program Director to lead our CACREP-aligned counselor education program. This is a full-time, tenure-track position. The M.Ed. Counseling Program offers emphasis tracks in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling, with a current enrollment of over 110 students. The curriculum is offered primarily in-class, during the evenings. Stephens College is committed to pursuing accreditation by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) and is actively seeking faculty to fulfill core roles for this program.

The M.Ed. Counseling program has a vision of training counselors that strive to be lifelong learners who recognize the possibility for growth in all humans, and who are leaders in the field of counseling. The mission of the M.Ed. Counseling Program is to prepare socially conscious and multiculturally competent counselors through the delivery of a comprehensive counselor education program that focuses on sound relational skills, comprehensive theoretical knowledge base, strong counselor identity, and social justice. Graduates of the M.Ed. Counseling Program are prepared to work with diverse clientele in schools and community agencies. We uphold The Ten Ideals of Stephens College and use them to assess counselor dispositions.

The ideal candidate will have a doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP-accredited program. The candidate will identify with the counseling profession (1) through sustained memberships in professional counseling organizations, (2) through the maintenance of certifications and/or licenses related to their counseling specialty area(s), and (3) by showing evidence of sustained (a) professional development and renewal activities related to counseling, (b) professional service and advocacy in counseling, and (c) research and scholarly activity in counseling commensurate with their faculty role. Additionally, the ideal candidate will value collaboration and innovation in curriculum design and program coordination.

Requirements:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Program Management: Plans, organizes, directs, staffs, and monitors operations of the M.Ed. Counseling program including working with admissions and marketing, program assessment/review/development, and leading the CACREP accreditation effort. Maintains program currency and reviews and revises programs to enhance the student learning experience.
  • Teaching Excellence: Teaches half-time in the fall and spring semesters, or the equivalent, as assigned by the Dean or VPAA, to ensure quality of program and student learning experience. Models excellence in teaching and learning, and fosters student development.
  • Performance of Faculty: Oversees and monitors the performance of faculty to ensure program quality. Assumes responsibility for hiring, developing, evaluating, and managing expectations of faculty. Ensures effective orientation, training, mentoring, and coaching for faculty to foster a respectful, empowering learning environment that contributes to a positive faculty and student experience.
  • Curriculum Development and Review: Ensures that program curriculum is in alignment with the mission of Stephens College and focuses on application and current practice. Assumes accountability for developing new program offerings and for evaluating and updating existing programs. Provides oversight for program and course quality. Ensures alignment of program with accreditation standards.
  • Student Learning and Development: Oversees and advocates for student learning and engagement. Supports students to become responsible, ethical, self-directed professionals.
  • Academic and Faculty Governance: Influences academic and faculty governance through leadership and participation on committees and task forces.
  • Currency and Scholarship: Provides visionary leadership to ensure faculty currency. Models, promotes, and participates in research and scholarly work.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An earned doctoral degree from a CACREP-accredited institution in counselor education.
  • Five years proven experience teaching in counselor education.
  • Five years experience with development of CACREP-aligned curriculum and maintenance of CACREP standards.
  • Experience in higher education management and adult education.
  • Ability to address student academic-related issues and concerns in support of retention and student success.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing in a creative and fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills. Must be able to relate to and communicate with diverse students, faculty, staff, and external communities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and learning management systems in support of quality teaching and learning.
