Illinois College is a residential, private liberal arts college located in historic Jacksonville, Illinois, 85 miles northeast of Saint Louis, Missouri, and 30 miles west of Springfield, the Illinois State Capitol. Summary
Illinois College Education Department invites applications for a specialist in Literacy for an open-rank tenure track position beginning in Fall, 2018. We seek a creative person prepared to help the Department continue to integrate literacy throughout the undergraduate teacher preparation program. Preference will be given to candidates with ELL experience.

Essential Functions
The following list of duties is meant to be representative of the work performed in this position. Additional responsibilities may also be included if the work is similar, related, or a logical extension of the position responsibilities.

  • work with nine licensure programs for entry-level teacher candidates
  • assist department and content area faculty with the integration of literacy throughout the disciplines
  • supervise or work with student teachers and support them through the edTPA submission process
  • develop a research scholarship program that is of value to disciplinary or interdisciplinary peers
  • service to the college and professional community
  • maintain and expand strong integration with the local community
  • involve students in faculty-student collaboration, using research and teaching to interest them in the scholarship of teaching.

Essential Qualifications

  1. an earned doctorate (or evidence of a date to defend their dissertation) in education or a related field by May, 2018
  2. teaching experience in undergraduate and K-12 contexts
  3. considerable expertise in literacy
