Position Summary

West Chester University’s Department of Special Education invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in Special Education. The positions will be available starting August 2018 and will involve teaching assignments in both graduate and undergraduate programs. Success in the position requires excellence in teaching, scholarly growth, and a commitment to university/community service. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. West Chester University, about 25 miles west of Philadelphia, is the largest university in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education with an enrollment of approximately 17,000 students.

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in special education, scholarship, university and community service, distance education, advising students, and supervision of student teachers and/or field experiences – online teaching and off-campus teaching may be required

Minimum Qualifications

Prospective candidates should have minimum qualification: (a) 3 years of PK-12 teaching experience; (b) at least a doctorate in special education or closely related field [e.g., Ph.D./Ed.D. in Education/Educational Leadership with a special education concentration or graduate level coursework in special education]. ABD with completion of all degree requirements by August 2018 will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

Three years of public school teaching experience along with Special Education Certification or specialist certification [BCBA, Diagnostician etc.], experience with PK-12 students in a direct educational capacity that is consistent with supporting needs of students with disabilities. Undergraduate and graduate teaching experience preferred
