MTSU’s University College, Department of University Studies invites applicants for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant/associate professor rank (#136180) to teach Reading. Start date for the position is August 1, 2018.
Successful candidates will be expected to teach a full load of reading sections per semester; participate in departmental, college and campus meetings and committees; maintain regular office hours; participate in assessment of learning and curriculum development; and participate in professional development activities. Candidate should also be available to teach evening classes if needed.
The successful candidate is expected to possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques for teaching.
- Skilled in the use of computers, internet resources, and MS Office Software.
- Ability to advise, instruct, manage, motivate, and evaluate students in the field of study.
- Ability to integrate technology into the teaching and learning process.
- Ability to successfully interact professionally with students, other educators, educational institution representatives, and the general public.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
- Ability and willingness to learn all software specific to Middle Tennessee State University that is required to perform duties.
Doctoral degree in Reading or Literacy Studies or closely related field with at least 18 graduate hours in reading from an accredited college or university expected. ABD close to completion considered. Candidate may be hired with the ABD with the understanding that degree completion will take place no later than one year from date of hire.Other Desirable:
Candidates who possess at least 2 years full-time teaching experience in higher education will receive special consideration.
