Job Description

The Department of Educational Leadership and Higher Education at the University of Central Florida ( UCF) seeks an innovative and culturally responsive scholar to join our team as the next assistant or associate professor of Educational Leadership. The Educational Leadership program is robust, with an enrollment of approximately 400 students in the M.Ed., M.A., Ed.S., and Ed.D. degree programs. UCF holds a Carnegie classification of Research University-Very High and the Educational Leadership program has an established reputation as a rigorous and respected program. Therefore, education leaders in Central Florida and the nation seek our graduates for administrative, research, policy, and other leadership positions.

The ideal candidate will join faculty members who contribute their expertise to organizations in Florida and the region, and as active members of professional organizations, journal editorships, and research cooperatives, including the EU-funded Doctoral Supervision of Multi-Disciplinary Practice Based Doctorates. The faculty and graduate students serve urban, suburban, and rural education. Alumni of the program are executive leaders, principals, researchers, policy administrators, and/or educational advocates. Primary responsibilities of this dynamic position include teaching courses in the Educational Leadership program at the master’s and doctoral degree levels on the Orlando campus and in other settings. Pursuing a programmatic line of research and scholarship, including publications and external funding to support program and research initiatives is expected, along with providing service to the field and community. Additional responsibilities include mentoring graduate students by advising, chairing and participating on dissertation committees, as well as supervising field experiences. The selected candidate will serve on college and university-wide committees and contribute to continued program improvement.

This position is a 9-month, tenure-earning assistant professor or tenured associate professor appointment with benefits. The desired start date is January 2019.

The College of Community Innovation and Education employs approximately 210 full?time faculty members serving about 9,000 undergraduate and graduate students across more than 35 academic disciplines.

Position Minimum Qualifications

  • An earned doctorate in Educational Leadership, Educational Administration, Educational Policy, or a closely related field from an accredited institution by start of the appointment.
  • Proven record of or potential for research and scholarly publications.
  • Leadership experience in PK-12 education, state or national educational policy organizations, or related K-12 educational contexts.
  • In order to obtain tenure upon hire, the selected candidate must have a demonstrated record of research, teaching, and service commensurate with rank.


  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas: instructional leadership, education law, finance, social justice, program evaluation, education policy.
  • Culturally responsive interpersonal skills and organizational skills.
  • Experience in preparing emerging or practicing school leaders for leadership in diverse environments or teaching in higher education is desired.
  • For rank of associate professor, evidence of collaboration within and across academic programs and with external stakeholders, grant awards, and readiness to chair dissertations are expected.
