Northern Vermont University invites invitations for a full-time, tenure-track position in early childhood and special education at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 2019. This position will be based on the university’s Lyndon campus. Our mission is to prepare every student for personal and professional success through experience-based, high-quality programs in the liberal arts and professional studies.

The successful candidate for the position below will be an effective college teacher, show promise of scholarly activity, demonstrate an ability to work harmoniously with colleagues within and across departments, and will contribute to program development and assessment.

POSITION: Full-time Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in the Education Department.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach early childhood education and special education courses and supervise early childhood field placements. Coordinate our predominantly online early childhood program as well as our traditional early childhood programs. Actively engage in early childhood communities of practice at the state and national levels. Create early childhood professional development opportunities that emphasize developmentally appropriate practices in the education of the whole child. The successful candidate will also teach departmental core courses, supervise field placements in elementary education and lead the department in adapting the program to the Vermont Early Learning Standards (VELS): https://education.vermont.gov/sites/aoe/files/documents/edu-early-education-early-learning-standards.pdf. She or he will also assist with advising education majors. Commitment to college teaching excellence (24 credit hours per academic year), scholarship and professional development, and community and collegial service are required.

QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate for this position will possess an earned doctorate and certification in early childhood and special education or early childhood special education. (Doctoral candidates, with a documented plan for completion by August 2019, may also be considered.) Expertise in autism and experience teaching at the college level are preferred.

SALARY: Based on qualifications and experience as defined by VSC-VSCFF Agreement.
