The Department of Special Education at Illinois State University (ISU) in Normal, IL, invites applications for a tenure-track position to be filled at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Severe Disabilities.

Position: This tenure-track position, to start on August 16, 2019, is a nine-month position with the opportunity for summer employment. Responsibilities may include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, conducting and supervising research activities, seeking external funding, and providing university and professional service. Salary is competitive.

Required Qualifications: Applicants must hold an earned doctorate in special education or related field with expertise in severe disabilities (ABD considered). State law mandates demonstrable oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position. Employment is contingent upon passing a satisfactory criminal background investigation.

Desired Qualifications: Priority will be given to applicants who have experience teaching or providing direct service to individuals with severe disabilities, university teaching experience, and an active research agenda. Individuals with experience in culturally responsive pedagogy or civic engagement are strongly encouraged to apply.

Department of Special Education: ISU is a large public university with state and nationally recognized teacher preparation programs. The Department of Special Education offers undergraduate programs leading to licensure as a specialist in learning and behavior (LBS, i.e., multicategorical licensure), low vision/blindness (LVB), and deaf/hard of hearing (DHH).
