The Department of Teaching and Learning at the University of Iowa invites applications for one-to-two academic year open rank (i.e., assistant/associate/full professor) tenure-track faculty positions in Elementary Literacy Education beginning August 2019.
We seek individuals with evidence of significant professional promise or accomplishment in research that impacts elementary literacy education. The successful applicant will be expected to maintain a robust program of empirical research; teach undergraduate and graduate courses in elementary education; teach graduate courses in the Language, Literacy, and Culture program; and advise undergraduate, MA, and PhD students.
Prospective candidates must have earned a doctorate in reading or literacy or a related discipline by August 2019.
(1) evidence of scholarly productivity and/or promise of such in elementary literacy; (2) successful teaching experience in K-8 classrooms; (3) record of effective teaching at the postsecondary level; (4) potential for securing external funds for research, training, and program development; and (5) experience working with diverse populations.
(1) record of effective teaching in literacy education courses at the postsecondary level; (2) licensure (or eligible for licensure) at the elementary level; (3) established record of securing external funds for research, training, and/or program development; (4) experience with building partnerships with local schools and communities; and (5) expertise in reading and at least one of the following areas: language arts, children’s literature, writing, digital literacies, disciplinary literacy or culturally and linguistically diverse learners.
The successful applicant will continue a robust empirical research program in elementary literacy education; design and teach undergraduate/graduate courses in elementary teacher education and literacy education; and advise undergraduate, MA, and PhD students. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to pursue and secure external funding; contribute to national and international scholarship in the field; be involved with local, state, and national activities that support the practice of elementary literacy education; and engage in service to the program, department, college, and university. Faculty are required to engage in at least 4 hours a semester of collaboration with teachers in contributing to instruction in K8 classrooms.
