The Department of Education Reform ( EDRE) was created in 2005 through a $10 million gift from the Windgate Foundation and an additional $10 million from the University’s Matching Gift Program. This gift is one of the largest ever received by a college of education in the country. With these resources, the department has six endowed professorships, 10 doctoral fellowships and funds for research and projects.

The mission of the Department of Education Reform is to advance education and economic development by focusing on the improvement of academic achievement in elementary and secondary schools. The Department of Education Reform produces research findings leading to direct intervention programs in public schools. It is committed to producing research that will directly inform policymakers at all levels of government, scholars, parents, teachers, administrators and the general public to positively influence the future of Arkansas and the nation’s schools.

Summary of Job DutiesThe Research Assistant Professor of the Office for Education Policy will have two primary responsibilities in the Department of Education Reform. The first responsibility will be to assist the Office for Education Policy in their efforts to inform and improve education in Arkansas by conducting and disseminating rigorous research studies. The second responsibility will be to supervise and help to conduct field research experiments in the Department of Education Reform.

  • Has an earned doctorate from a nationally recognized and accredited institution in Education Policy, Public Policy, Political Science, Economics, Sociology, Psychology, or related field
  • Record of successful publication in peer-reviewed journals, professional presentations, and external funding
  • At least 5 years of experience communicating research results to education policymakers and practitioners
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills and collegiality

  • Experience managing large data sets for research projects
